Laminated glass or laminated/tempered glass
The main purpose of a railing is to protect people from falling. It is therefore essential to use resistant elements which prevent any accident. This is why the choice of the type of glass, the fixing accessories as well as the way of fixing the chosen solution is very important.
In terms of glass, two choices are available: laminated glass or laminated/tempered glass. The use of either will depend on how your glass railing is attached. If you opt for a solution with intermediate posts or floor profiles, laminated glass specially designed for use in railings will in most cases suffice. If you opt for fixing the glass with spacers or use your glass railing a busy public place, tempered/laminated glass will be the option to take.
The difference between the two glasses is as follows. Laminated glass is an assembly of two glasses with a plastic film called PVB in between. This film allows the glass to remain in one piece if it breaks after an impact. The laminated/tempered glass is assembled in the same way but the two sheets of glass have been tempered first. This means that the glass was baked in an oven at more than 600 ° Celsius and then quickly cooled down to provide greater resistance to thermal and mechanical shocks.

There are many ways to make a glass railing. It is for example possible to use a structure with posts or to use a profile fixed to the ground which, in certain cases, can be concealed so as to see only glass.
